That's Charlie. My nephew. He's got the kind of easy, relaxed presence that most people spend years trying to develop and never quite pull off. Just hanging out, glasses on, completely unbothered — which is honestly a personality trait I respect.
Being an uncle is one of those things that sneaks up on you. One day there's a new kid in the family, and then somewhere along the way you realize you've got a real person on your hands — someone with their own opinions, their own humor, their own way of looking at things. Charlie's at that stage now and it's pretty great to watch.
What makes Charlie, Charlie
He's sharp. Not in a show-off way — in a quietly observant way. He notices things. He'll pick up on something in a conversation that most people would glide right past, and he'll bring it back up later at exactly the right moment. That's a rare quality and it tends to serve people well.
He's also just good company. Easy to be around. Not every kid is — some you have to work at, coax into conversation, keep entertained. Charlie doesn't require any of that. You can just hang out. That photo above is basically the Charlie experience in one frame: settled in, at ease, taking it all in.
The best thing about watching kids in your family grow up is that you get to see who they're becoming before most of the world does. Charlie's going to be someone worth knowing. He already is.
Glad he's in the family. That's the whole post. Some people just deserve a page on the internet.
